WALK THROUGH HISTORY
Austin's historic downtown lends itself to enjoying the sites best by walking. This tour assumes the group is staying within walking distance of these downtown venues.
We begin at the Governor's Mansion, built in the Greek Revival style in 1856. Austin was a pioneer town of about 3,000 when the legislature authorized $17,000 to erect and furnish a residence and outbuildings for the governor. The Mansion has been the home of every Texas governor since 1856 and is the nation's fourth oldest mansion still used as a governor's residence.
We continue to the Bremond Block, a rare collection of homes in Austin's Central Business District. What has survived in the midst of downtown is a rare collection of homes - most notably an entire block of houses belonging to members of a single family.
Time: Approximately 1 1/2 hours
Note: The Governor's Mansion is only open Monday-Friday 10:00 am - 11:40 am. Closed weekends, some holidays and at the discretion of the Governor. Reservations must be made for groups and tours fill up quickly.
Optional: For an additional fee, after the walking tour guests can board an Austin "Duck" to continue on a unique City of Austin adventure. More details to follow. drinks and bottled water onboard bus.
